JUVÉDERM and other dermal fillers are increasingly popular with Houston women and men. Some people new to the world of cosmetic treatments, though, may not know what to expect from the treatment. At our dermatology practices, we love introducing patients to fillers and explaining how there’s nothing to fear. If you want to fade fine lines, wrinkles, and other common signs of aging, dermal fillers are an easy, go-to solution.

Wondering if fillers are right for you? Here’s what you can expect before, during, and after your very first dermal filler treatment.

Before: Research and Consultation

Before you even head into your first appointment, it can be helpful to do a bit of research at home. Browse blog posts or watch informative videos to learn more about skin care, injectables, and more. When you feel like you are ready to talk with someone about the treatment, schedule a consultation at one of our offices.

During your one-on-one consultation, you will have a chance to talk with one of our skilled injectors and ask any lingering questions you may have. We can also discuss your personal treatment goals and the final look you want to achieve with fillers. Through this process, your provider will help you find the best procedure (or combination of procedures) to create the look you’ve always wanted.

During: Your Appointment

When you enter the treatment room, you will be seated in a comfortable reclined chair, and your provider will begin prepping your skin with an antibacterial agent. You may be offered a numbing cream for the areas that will receive injections. The injector will then begin a series of injections, which can feel like a quick “pinch.”

The length of the procedure depends on the number of areas you’re having treated, but most dermal filler appointments last between 15 to 30 minutes.

After: The Recovery

As dermal fillers are a nonsurgical procedure, you can return to work or home immediately after treatment. However, you should avoid vigorous physical activity for at least 1 to 2 days after treatment. You can expect mild redness, bruising, or swelling around the injection sites. These issues will fade after a few days and can be treated with an ice pack or over-the-counter pain medication.

With most fillers, you will see your results immediately after your injection. Depending on the type of filler used, your new look can last 6 to 18 months. Follow a dermatologist-approved skincare regimen to maintain your results for as long as possible.

Dermal fillers are an excellent option for achieving the smooth, youthful skin of your dreams.
