How To Prep for Your Injectable Treatment

Woman prepping for BOTOX treatment

Treatments like BOTOX® and dermal fillers are more popular than ever at our Greater Houston practices. But while starting your injectables journey can be as easy as booking an appointment, there are a few things to keep in mind before your session. For the best results—and a smooth healing process—follow these main guidelines.

  • Avoid alcohol: Alcohol dilates blood vessels and causes them to expand; this includes those tiny capillaries close to the surface of your skin. To reduce the likelihood of bruising after treatment, avoid liquor, beer, and wine the night before your session.
  • Reschedule your gym session: You should feel calm and relaxed before heading to your injection appointment. If you have a HIIT or weight lifting class on your calendar, try to push it back by a few days.
  • Vet your supplements: Vitamins that contain fish oil, ginseng, or ginkgo biloba can thin your blood. Avoid taking supplements that impact blood flow before your treatment.
  • Have ice ready to go: Ice calms your blood vessels and helps them constrict. Feel free to ice your treatment area both before and after your session to reduce any soreness or bruising.

Knowing what to do (and what not to do) before treatment helps you have a safe, comfortable experience. If you would like to learn more about dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM, our Greater Houston dermatologists can help.
