About Mario Kapusta, MD
Dr. Mario O. Kapusta’s medical career spans over 40 years.
His surgical training started as a resident in General Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School Houston. This was followed by a residency in Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute, Houston, under the direction of Dr. Denton A. Cooley.
After completing his training, Dr. Kapusta created the first Cardiac Surgery program in East Texas, located at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas.
After several years, he returned to Houston serving as a Clinical Professor at the General Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery Departments at the University of Texas Medical School Houston. His passion was the repair of complex surgical problems in emergent and elective situations.
Concurrently, he founded Vein Center Houston, one of the first dedicated vein centers in the region. He introduced the most advanced techniques for the treatment of varicose, spider, and reticular veins. This remains his primary interest.
Dr. Kapusta is triple Board Certified. He holds certifications by the American Board of Surgery, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. Further, he holds several Ultrasound technology registries.
Dr. Kapusta is a member of multiple professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American Venous and Lymphatic Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, and Harris County Medical Society.
He is a professor at the University of Houston College of Medicine.
Dr. Kapusta’s main focus is the contemporary treatment of spider and reticular veins of the lower extremities and face. In addition, he is passionate about the treatment of dilated hand and forearm veins.
As a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Kapusta is fluent in Spanish.
During his leisure time he is an avid reader and enjoys endurance swimming, cycling, and world travel.
