Two Dermatologists & Mohs Surgery Specialists Join DermSurgery Associates

DermSurgery Associates

DermSurgery Associates recently welcomed a pair of board-certified dermatologists and fellowship-trained Mohs surgery specialists to their team. Dr. Sonal Parikh and Dr. Nhan (Nick) Nguyen will see general and cosmetic dermatology patients and perform Mohs surgery at DermSurgery’s locations in The Woodlands and Willowbrook. They will also see individuals who need Mohs surgery at the Sugar Land location.

Both Dr. Parikh and Dr. Nguyen recently completed their fellowship training at Houston Methodist Hospital’s ACGME Accredited Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Leonard Goldberg, who is recognized internationally as one of the leading experts in Mohs surgery and who is the President of DermSurgery Associates.

Dr. ParikhDr. Sonal Parikh

Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Dr. Parikh graduated summa cum laude, with University Honors, from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and minored in psychology, Spanish, and chemistry. While earning her medical degree at VCU’s School of Medicine, Dr. Parikh completed a yearlong fellowship in cutaneous oncology (skin cancer) research at Columbia University Medical Center’s dermatology department.

She remained at VCU Health to complete an internal medicine internship after medical school before completing a dermatology residency at the University of Connecticut Health in Farmington, CT. Dr. Parikh served as chief resident in her final year and then traveled to Houston, where she completed the micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology fellowship under Dr. Goldberg.

Dr. Parikh, who speaks English, Spanish, and Gujarati, is the author of multiple book chapters and articles that have been published in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and has presented her work at national meetings.

When she’s away from the office, Dr. Parikh enjoys the outdoors, traveling, exploring new cuisine, and arts and crafts. Additionally, she enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and family.

Dr. Nguyen

Dr. Nhan Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen’s education and training has taken him from the West Coast to the East Coast and back to his native Hawaii. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical/biochemical engineering from the University of Southern California before enrolling at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he completed a master’s degree in physiology and biophysics. He completed medical school at the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.

From there, Dr. Nguyen completed an internal medicine internship at the Fresno, CA, branch of  University of California, San Francisco. After his internship, he completed a postdoctoral dermatology clinical research fellowship at Columbia University and his dermatology residency at New York Medical College in New York City.

He then landed the yearlong fellowship training in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology under Dr. Goldberg in Houston. Dr. Nguyen has authored multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and he is an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology.
